Spring News from Executive Director Tay Knight

The calendar says it’s spring, but as I am sitting down to write this letter, there is a freeze warning for our area. Spring in Alabama is a crazy time for the weather and for Family Sunshine Center. In addition to many grant applications and reports, we are in the process of planning for our fundraising season and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It is never boring around here.

This year the theme for our fundraising season is United for Hope. I’ve said it many times before, but without the generosity of our donors and sponsors, we could NOT provide the services and programs that we do. And with federal funding declining it is even more crucial for us to expand our fundraising efforts. So, what does this mean?

Instead of two fundraising events this year, there will be three, maybe four. Ranch RoundUp in April, Cookin’ on the Coosa Music and Food Truck Festival and our brand-new Swing Fore Hope Golf Tournament in the Fall. These events were designed to raise much needed funds and awareness of our programs and services in our community and beyond. Keep an eye out on our website and social media for more information.

Speaking of Ranch RoundUp, this year’s event is coming up fast and tickets are already on sale. Ranch RoundUp will be held at Kick Back Ranch and our friend River Dan will be providing the music this year. There will be a few changes. Instead of a sit-down steak dinner, there will be a series of heavy appetizer stations with tasty treats created by Al Steinaker and the team at The King’s Table Catering. And the drawdown will be a little different. Instead of one $10,000 prize, there will be two $5,000 prizes, as well as some awesome prize packages.

One of my favorite parts of this job is the amazing group of individuals that make up the FSC team. This team includes not only our staff, but our volunteers, board members, supporters, donors, and sponsors. There is this corny saying that “team work makes the dream work”, and the FSC team works really hard to (say it with me) foster hope and healing for our clients and their families. Thank you for everything you do as part of our team.

With Gratitude,
Tay Knight
