Over the last 40 years,
the Family Sunshine Center has worked tirelessly to educate the community on the devastating effects of violence and provide programs and services to victims. In the beginning our focus was solely on domestic violence and its victims. Over time, to reflect the issues facing our community, our program has expanded to include services for sexual assault victims and survivors of sex and labor trafficking.
To celebrate our 40 years of Hope and Healing, we have put together a season of events to celebrate our accomplishments, educate our community, and cultivate partners as we move into the future.

FSC’s Hope and Healing Telethon
We are thrilled to announce that WSFA 12 News will be hosting an ALL DAY Hope and Healing Telethon. This live event will include WSFA anchors and FSC leadership discussing the services and history of FSC with heartfelt stories from survivors.
Funds raised through this telethon will help us empower thousands of Alabama adults and children to move from fear and abuse to hope and healing through a range of comprehensive services, shelter, and advocacy. Volunteers will be manning the phone lines for donations, but donors will also be able to contribute through a text fundraising campaign. Text to Donate instructional video will be available via FSC website and social media providing step-by-step directions on how to give.
by Robin Gerber
Join us for an event benefiting FSC, Cloverdale Playhouse, and Wetumpka Depot! Award-winning actor Sharon Lawrence presents a reading of Robin Gerber’s new play, The Shot, about iconic Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham.
For more than 20 years, Katharine Graham was a self-described “doormat wife”, secretly enduring years of domestic abuse from her husband. After his suicide, she took over as the publisher and CEO of the Washington Post where she defied the government by publishing the Pentagon Papers and took on Nixon in Watergate. We will host a digital screening of THE SHOT followed by an interactive panel discussion. Invited to this panel are Sharon Lawrence and The Shot playwright Robin Gerber. Following this debut event, the video will be available for on-demand viewing.
