The fall is a special time of year; it’s the season of falling leaves and cooler weather, football games and the state fair. It’s also the beginning of the holiday season when many of us look forward to celebrating with massive Thanksgiving dinners or Christmas trees overstuffed with holiday gifts. For many it is a season of magic and hope…but not everyone.
The holidays should be a magical time filled with family and love…but for those dealing with the aftereffects of violence this is not always possible. For our clients who are rebuilding their lives affected by violence, the holiday season can be especially difficult. They may have to navigate extra visitation time for the children with their former spouse or interact with in-laws who are not supportive. Many of our clients have a hard time making ends meet after leaving abusive partners and can’t afford special holiday meals or gifts for their families.
This is where you can help! You, your company, your family, or organization can join FSC during our season of giving to spread some holiday cheer to our clients in need. We have two different giving programs this fall:
Thanksgiving Dinner Drive ensures that every family can enjoy a holiday feast with all the trimmings. It is easy to get involved; just donate grocery store gift cards so that our clients can purchase the items they need.
FSC’s Adopt-A-Family program connects clients in need with donors who want to spread holiday cheer. After you sign up to adopt a family, we will send you an identification code for your family along with a wish list with sizes, preferences, and any special needs.
Getting involved in either of these programs is as easy as contacting Jessica Witherspoon at 334-206-2100 or jwitherspoon@familysunshine.org.
