For many, “Back to School” means new haircuts, new uniforms, and the joy of brand-new school supplies. We want children in FSC’s shelters and counseling programs to feel the same joy and have the tools and supplies needed for academic success.
At retail prices, a backpack filled with supplies can range from $65 (Elementary) to $100 (High School). A basic uniform can cost between $25 – $75 per outfit, not including shoes. For many of our clients, there often are no funds left over for uniforms, books, or school supplies – even the basics of pencils and paper. When these supplies are not available in the home, homework often goes undone.
To address this need, in mid-July we will host our two Back to School drives, one for uniforms and one for supplies.
The “Adopt-a-Student” Uniform drive pairs donors with students giving the donors a student’s sizes and school colors. Donors can then purchase the uniform themselves OR make a monetary donation and FSC will do the shopping.
With our “Back-to-School” Supply Drive, we fill backpacks with donated, essential, grade appropriate school supplies. To find the list of supplies needed, click here.
