We hope you are hungry because this October we are heading to the banks of the Coosa River for the inaugural Cookin’ on the Coosa Food Truck Festival.
Created and coordinated by the Change Champions, FSC’s young professionals group, this event will celebrate the tastes of the River Region while raising awareness and raising funds for our mission and programs. The food truck festival will be held at the City of Wetumpka Farmers Market, Saturday, October 22 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Food trucks will be serving a wide selection of delicious food ranging from casual seafood to barbecue, fun and festive carnival food, Mexican street food, salads, and sweets. The day will also include music and entertainment as well as family friendly activities, all on the banks of the beautiful Coosa River.
Last year, we started Change Champions, a young professionals group whose focus is to engage and educate their peers and networks on not only our programs and services but also on the long-lasting impact (both social and fiscal) that domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking can have on the community.
They bring fresh eyes to the table and that’s ultimately how this first fundraising event (friend-raising, really) came to be. This spring, the Change Champions were tasked with creating an event that would not only appeal to a different audience but would be held in a different part of our service area.
“We’ve seen how successful food truck festivals have been in Montgomery and thought this would be a great way to introduce FSC, the Change Champions, and our mission and programs to a new community,” said Mikala McCurry, Change Champions member.
This is an event that you need to bring an appetite to as seven food trucks have already committed to take a part in the inaugural event.
The food trucks will be revealed in the days leading up to Cookin’ on the Coosa through our social media, and we ask that when they are posted, please go give them a like and a follow.
