October 1st ushered in a new fiscal year for Family Sunshine Center. LaShandra Warren-Barnes assumed the role of Board President, most of our federal awards rolled to a new year, and grant reporting season was in full swing. We welcomed 8 new members to our board of directors with affiliations in the River Region and beyond. We are excited to see these new members grow in their understanding of why we exist and how we serve the community.
Also in October, we recognized Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A time when we reflect on the lives lost to this crime and provide information to our friends, family, coworkers, and our community on how to recognize domestic violence and respond to victims. Be sure to read “iCare-Do You?” and check out our website later this month for new resources to help guide friends and family when they suspect domestic violence is happening to someone they know.
Our staff spotlight this month is on Stephen Holdren, Director of Residential Programs. From the time Stephen joined our team in 2018, he has been blazing new paths for Family Sunshine Center. His caring and compassion for victims is equal only to his determination to elevate residential services.
Lastly, the fun and excitement of holiday activities is building. We expect to serve 150 families at Thanksgiving and 120 families and 20 individuals at Christmas. We need your help to make this a reality. You can call 334-206-2100 or sign up through our website www.familysunshine.org. Thank you for caring about our mission, our clients, and our community!
With gratitude,
Tay
