“Volunteering makes you feel good about yourself, but more importantly in my opinion it helps a lot of people who are in need”
Meet Lauren Mitchell. Lauren is 13 years old and enjoys helping others and providing support to her classmates. In her leisure time she enjoys reading, has a Black belt in Taekwondo, and is a 7th year member of Girls Scouts of America. Along with all her busy hobbies, Lauren has been on the honor roll since Kindergarten.
During her course of virtual learning, Lauren was assigned a class project and decided she wanted to share timely and useful information to her peers. Her research led her to the Family Sunshine Center, and she quickly connected with Jessica Witherspoon, Community Relations Coordinator. Jessica assigned her a volunteer project to help Lauren learn about various topics that pertained to her age group.
While at home, Lauren stamped 1,150 brochures to be distributed throughout the community. She learned more about bullying and ways to help someone that may be involved in a bullying situation. Lauren created a presentation about what she learned while volunteering for FSC and delivered the information to her class.
We thank you, Lauren, for being a leader for your peers and most of all your eager way of displaying volunteer service acts at such a young age.
